Jillian McManemin is a performance artist, filmmaker and writer. She has performed and presented work at Anthology Film Archives, the MET, Dixon Place, Invisible Exports and the Knockdown Center. She has performed with Ieva Misevičiūtė, Clifford Owens, and Joe Coleman and Julie Atlas Muz in the independent feature, The Cruel Tale of the Medicine Man. The film features a number of downtown burlesque luminaries and won best feature at the Coney Island Film Festival in 2015 and the East Village Queer Film Festival in 2017.
She is an editor and writer for ART511 Magazine & Critical Practices Inc., and has contributed to books by Dread Scott, Larry Clark, the Living Theater, among many others. She acts as a visiting critic for Pratt Institute and has lectured at the Minerva Art Academy in the Netherlands. She has received the American PEN Writer’s Fund, the Max’s Kansas City Grant and the Artist Alliance Grant to fund her residency at the Vermont Studio Center in 2016. She is in post-production on an experimental feature-length film, Confederitis, and looks forward to exploring new cinematic methods at the Can Serrat residency in summer 2018.
