Jillian McManemin is a writer, filmmaker and performance artist.
She has performed and presented work at Anthology Film Archives, the MET Live Arts, Dixon Place, Invisible Exports and the Knockdown Center. Her writing has appeared in Hyperallergic and Art511 Magazine. She has performed with Ieva Misevičiūtė, Clifford Owens, and stars in the independent feature, The Cruel Tale of the Medicine Man. The film features downtown burlesque luminaries and won best feature at the Coney Island Film Festival in 2015 and the East Village Queer Film Festival in 2017.
She has edited and produced books and editorial projects by Dread Scott, Larry Clark, the Living Theater, among many others. She acts as a visiting critic for the Pratt Institute Sculpture Dept. She received the American PEN Writer’s Fund, the Max’s Kansas City Grant and the Artist Alliance Grant, and was a resident writer at the Vermont Studio Center and Can Serrat.
She recently completed Confederitis, a collaborative experimental feature-length film co-directed and created with Rbt.Sps. The film premiered at The Slipper Room and was presented by Anthology Film Archives in 2018. Spanish subtitles are available, an excerpt of Confederitis appeared at the Centro Provincial de Artes Plásticas y Diseño en Santiago, Cuba.
